Lisa Biskup Organ and Tissue Donor Foundation

 

A letter of love from me to my daughter, Lisa: OUR Mission Statement:

The sole purpose of The Lisa Biskup Organ & Tissue Donor Foundation is to be a major supporter of the University of Michigan Transplant Center's Camp Michitanki. Because Lisa had an enduring love for children, as her father, I know that she would be happy knowing that her foundation not only gives awareness support to Camp Michitanki but also takes a major role in financially supporting the Camp. The camp's only goal is to give children and teenagers who have received organs one week of glorious care-free fun … one week where they can just "be kids"…where they don't feel like freaks with tubes and scars and limitations… where they can do and be what other more fortunate children take for granted daily…one week in their lives that have already been overwhelmed with illness, limitation, and sometimes long scary periods of hopelessness. Camp Michitanki was established for these kids. That's its only reason for existence. Lisa would be the first one to say "Give what you can! Let 'em have a really great week where they can 'just be kids'." So it is with this hope, this dream, that I have established this foundation…so that every penny brought in by the annual Lisa Memorial Polka Dance as well as any individual contributions and donations made to the Foundation be spent on what Lisa would've wanted…which was to "let the kids just be kids"… for one week … "let the kids just be kids."

SO…with that purpose utmost in my heart and mind, that is the Mission Statement , if you will, of the The Lisa Biskup Organ & Tissue Donor Foundation. It is simple in its design and pure in its purpose. It is not for fame or recognition; it is quite simply to honor my daughter in the most sincere way I know how… to honor her memory by providing these special children who have endured so much at such an early age one brief moment in time of freedom and fun.

This foundation isn't FOR Lisa; it's BECAUSE of Lisa. And it is in her honor that it exists.
