About Lisa Biskup - April 12, 1967 - May 13, 2006

Lisa was born in Saginaw, MI. at St.Mary's Hospital on 4-12-67. It was an early morning delivery when Lisa came into this world, weighing in at 9 1/2 lbs and measuring 22" long. Lisa was not the normal pink skinned baby at birth. She had a blueish color indicating that there was a problem. It was determined that it was a heart problem but no full evaluation was given at that time. The next several months consisted of many tests and doctor visits. Finally, in July(during the Detroit Racial Riots) Lisa was sent to the University of Michigan for testing.

Lisa never had heart surgery because a defined problem was never determined. Consequently, testing and various RX treatment went on for the next 16 years. Lisa enjoyed normal health besides her heart issues. She had minor limitations but did most of the normal things that kids do.While in high school she was an active member of the Sterling Hts. marching band playing the flute, it was around this time that Lisa's real problerms were diagnosed by a team of Baylor Univ doctors in Texas. Lisa was put on experimental medicines that helped save her life. These drugs were taken for the next 7 years, with hope.

Lisa married on 4-16-87 and was a beautiful bride. In July of 1990 her heart ailment reached the most dangerous point, and doctors determined that she needed a heart transplant. On August 17,1990, the miracle of the Gift of Life occured when Lisa received a new heart. Lisa's recovery was good but slow. The anti-rejection medicines took a huge toll in her recovery. Unfortunately, her husband could not lend her the proper support for recovery and their marriage ended in divorce. Lisa returned home and over the next couple of years regained her strength and put her life back together again.

Lisa loved children and worked full time at day care centers caring for kids. She also went to night school and Saturdays in pursuit of a college degree. After several years Lisa earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources. Her will to live and succeed in life gave a lasting inspiration to all that knew her.

Lisa developed a love for Polish music and could be seen every weekend all around Michigan and many other states attending festivals, and various Polish activities. One of her biggest enjoyments was going on a Polka cruise in Jan of 2006. Lisa fell ill shortly after the cruise and passed away on May 13, 2006. Lisa will always be remembered for her long flowing blonde hair, positive attitude and her everlasting smile. These are just a few of the many reasons why we're holding the 5th Annual Memorial Benefit Polka dance in Lisa's honor.

Lisa was also an organ and tissue donor at her death. She was one of only a few organ recepients that was also able to be an organ and tissue donor. Lisa gave the Gift of Life to a young man in Indianapolis with her liver. She also gave the gift of sight by donating her corneas to two young men, one from Michigan and one from New Jersey. An unselfish gift so that others may have a better life.

Hoping that this has given you a picture of Lisa and what she was about.
